A memorial plaque on a wall in an inconspicuous spot in the Ruhr area read „Wie kann man nur hassen, dass Menschen sich lieben?“ which translates to “how can one hate that people love each other?” In J.A. Gera this plaque is shown amongst cityscapes and details of various scenes. These photographs enter into a dialogue with a series of local newspaper articles that cover a right-wing murder case that took place in the year 1997. The viewer is confronted with the publicly known facts to this case and is forced to take up a position. A case that seems all too normal, that reveals its real explosive power only after looking closely at all the details. After all the question remains, what is left of this crime but this plaque on a wall.
